The Nkyinkyim Museum is thrilled to announce its 2024 Ancestor Veneration Ceremony, a profound annual event dedicated to honoring our ancestors and preserving our rich cultural heritage. This year’s ceremony, supported by the Adibia Royal Clan of Ada, will take place on October 5th, 2024, at the museum’s premises in Nuhalenya-Ada, Greater Accra Region.
Key Highlights of the Ceremony
The Ancestor Veneration Ceremony is a sacred festival that aims to undemonize African traditional religions, promote cultural awareness, and foster community spirit among locals and the broader African diaspora. The event includes:
- Prayers for Our Ancestors: Special prayers will be offered for enslaved ancestors and those lost in travel, as well as rites for twins who have lost their other half and fertility blessings for those wishing to bear children (twins).
- Communal Cleaning and Dining: The festivities will kick off on Friday, October 4th, with communal cleaning and dining at 10:00 AM.
- Documentary Screening: On the evening of October 4th, at 7:00 PM, there will be a screening of the documentary “The Art of Healing Descendant Pain,” produced by Darius Mattheson and featuring Kwame Akoto-Bamfo.
- Veneration Day: The main event on October 5th will begin with a procession and prayers at 11:00 AM.
Dress Code and Sacred Space Etiquette
Guests are encouraged to wear white to symbolize purity and respect. The Nkyinkyim Museum also emphasizes the importance of maintaining the sacredness of the space. Visitors are asked to refrain from making noise, loitering, spitting, urinating, smoking, or littering in the sacred healing space. Additionally, the museum promotes a green, plastic-free environment and encourages guests to bring reusable water bottles and cutlery.
